SHERWOOD ARCHERS

At the start of the month we held our annual Longbow/ Barebow Tournament. This is a two-way shoot, with targets at both ends of the field, so that shooting is almost continuous, with no tents or brollies for shelter  and no  chairs for a rest between ends! We shot nine-dozen arrows , three-dozen at each of 80,60 and 50 yards, with a break for lunch after the first two distances. This year only sixteen archers took part, but we all had a really good day, with very little wind and sunshine all the time. Club members Lee Waterfield and Steve Gamble won trophies for Compound and Longbow respectively.

In mid-October some of our members went to Belvoir Archers for their Windsor Round tournament. Steve Gamble was 1st Longbow, Susan Stankovic was 1st Lady Compound and Ashley Buckland was 1st Junior Lady Compound. A good result for Sherwood Archers!

Our final open tournament of the outdoor season, always held on the day after the clocks go back, was The Pie and Beans Shoot, shot as a Western Round of 4 dozen at 60 yds and 4 dozen at 50 yds, with a lunch break for the ever-popular pies and beans. This year we welcomed 100 archers and 16 visitors, which gave us a very busy day and produced some very good shooting by seniors and juniors in the four different styles of recurve, compound, longbow and barebow. Club members who won trophies or medals were Ashley Buckland [1st Lady Compound], Steve Gamble [1st Gentleman Longbow], Jamie Collier [2nd Junior Gentleman recurve] and Lee Waterfield [3rd Gentleman Compound] . We were lucky to miss “The Storm” and only had rain for the last half-hour, so all-in-all a most enjoyable day.
