Georges Newsletter Oct 2022
Outdoor competitions continued this month, and Friday indoor club-nights at our winter venue, Joseph Whitaker Sports Centre,Rainworth, were well attended
On 2nd October , we held our first “2 and 3 Shoot” for archers who were unfamiliar with competition shooting. Organised by senior members Paul Moran, Mark Burton and Stephen Lamb, the shoot introduced the rules and procedures of competitions in an informal way so that the archers would have more confidence when they decided to enter their next competition. 16 archers, mostly our members, but visitors from Beeston Rylands and Burton Joyce as well, enjoyed the shoot, and we hope to put on another in the future.
We began our winter season “ Frostbite “ shoots on 8th October. 3 dozen arrows shot at 30 metres might not sound much for a Saturday morning, but as the winter weather takes over and the shoot lives up to its name , it can be quite a challenge. This time , we had 11 seniors and 3 juniors, some shooting it for the first time, and all enjoying the morning, so we hope to welcome more next month to give it a try.
Congratulations are due to 3 of our members and one associate member, all of them shooting barebow to represent Notts Archery Society at the Regional Clout Competition at Alfreton on 22nd Oct. Alice Wood-Stevens was 1st Lady and Mark Burton 3rd Gent in the individuals, and Mark, Jason Millard and Associate member Mandie Elson were 3rd Team.
The next day, we held our 34th Pie and Beans Shoot, this year coupled with our Club Outdoor Championships. Organised by Susan Stankovic, with Mario Stankovic Judge in Charge and Field Captains Brian Palfreyman and Andy Tomalin. Patron was George Brown, Club President . 57 archers from across the region took part. Thanks are due to the working party of club members for setting up the field, organising the parking and the barbecue, all in the pouring rain, which lasted nearly all morning Fortunately it eased off and the afternoon session was dry and bright. In spite of the rain, the shoot was enjoyed. Winning scores were high, and the Presentation and the Raffle were held in high spirits in the clubhouse.
Club Champions were: Recurve, Paul Moran and Alice Wood-Stevens; Compound, Lee Waterfield; Longbow, Roger King; NoviceRecurve, Wayne Ketton and Amy Sykes;Novice Barebow,Danny Smith and Xavier Halili.
Pie and Beans full results list can be found on Sherwood Archers website.
Well done everyone!
