It is with sadness that we have to report that Linda Millard, a valued club member,  passed away on 8th October. Linda was a successful archer and had been a club member, with her husband  Jason, since 2015. She was always ready to join in and help whenever she could , and as well as shooting regularly she had been our Catering Officer and had also been our Safeguarding Officer for a while. We shall miss her friendly presence on club nights and at competitions, and she will be long remembered.

Linda’s favourite competition over the years was our Pie and Beans  Shoot, so it was appropriate that we paid our tribute to her at this years’ shoot on 24th October.  Before the shooting began, everyone on the field , numbering a hundred archers and club members , gathered together to hear our Chairman, Mario Stankovic,  remember Linda, and offer our sympathy to Jason. Club member Lee Waterfield then shot  the traditional whistling black arrow down the length of the field, and it was accompanied by applause  from everyone in memory of Linda.

The shoot then went ahead smoothly, with no hold-ups for lost arrows or equipment failures. Organised by Susan Stankovic, with judges Mario Stankovic and Andrew Kay, it was a case of back to pre-covid shoots, with twenty one targets for seventy eight archers  filling the shooting line, sausage and bacon cobs available on arrival, pie and beans for lunch and a raffle while waiting for the results and presentations in the clubhouse.

The October Frostbite in the middle of the month was on such a pleasant Saturday afternoon that the archers decided to shoot a double round, something that didn’t happen when the Frostbite was held on  Sunday mornings.

The second part of the Autumn Beginners’ Course was held at the beginning of the month. That completed the course,and we already have five new members joining us. The next course is scheduled for the end of January and the beginning of February 2022, at Joseph Whitaker Sports Centre, Rainworth.
