Georges Newsletter May 2021
Maythorne Cottage Field, the home of Sherwood Archers, is once again open for members to practise and to shoot in club competitions . As we explained in our last report, members have to book in with the Secretary to be able to shoot, either for practice or to take part in competitions, and the safety regulations are detailed with regard to number of archers on the field, social distancing and sanitisation . Nevertheless, members are returning in increasing numbers as the evenings lengthen and our Club Night becomes possible.
Our April Frostbite attracted 19 members to shoot the 3 dozen at 30 metres – a useful round after a long lay-off. Best results were by Andy Tomalin [American Flat Bow], Mandie Elson [Barebow], Lee Waterfield [Compound], Andy Mortimore [Longbow] and Paul Woods [Recurve].
The next Frostbite will be held on the second Sunday in May.
At the end of the month, 11 archers shot a Club Clout, at distances of 185m for gentlemen and 125m for ladies and juniors, which is quite demanding after a long period with little practice while the field was under lock-down. Best results for the double round were by Gentlemen, Alex Atkins[AFB] and Jason Millard [B/B] , Ladies Linda Millard [AFB] and Mandie Elson [B/B], Junior Ethan Wood [AFB].
Our first open competition since we re-opened will be in June, and it is already fully booked. Other competitions will follow throughout the summer, and we hope to offer a Beginners Course
For anyone wanting to take up our sport. Details of our activities can be found on our website.
