Georges Newsletter June 2022

June is one of our busiest months, for competitions as well as for club activities ,when we can shoot on summer days and well into the long evenings.  Club sessions are on Tuesday and Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, and monthly club competitions , both target and clout, are on Sundays.
On 5th June our Double 720 Competition, organised by Linda Telford, attracted 32 archers from a wide area to shoot at 70m or 50m on 122cm or 80cm target faces, depending on using recurve or compound bows, to gain ranking points.
Last week we hosted the 73rd Sheriff of Nottingham’s Golden Arrow Tournament , organised by Susan Stankovic, the first of four this month. Shooting 6 dozen arrows at 60 yds on a sunny but showery afternoon made for a good time for the 29 archers taking part, and 8 of the 18 trophies came to our members.Good shooting
The next day was the second of the three Notts Archery Society Summer League shoots, again organised by Susan. Teams from across the county the part, but results are not published until after the third round. The first two rounds include The Lord Mayor of Nottingham’s Oregon Challenge against the archers of Sherwood,Oregon,USA. Both sides shoot the same round , an American of   2 1/2 dozen at 60/50/40 Yards, and the scores are exchanged ,and then the medals are sent  when the results are announced.
Our Secretary, Jane Burton, organised our Club  Warwick target round  and a Clout shoot on !9th June, to give members an opportunity to try something different. This will be a regular practice session .
The last competition of the month again organised by Susan Stankovic was our Open Double National, shot at 60 and 50yds on a warm, sunny, breezy day, with no showers!  36 archers took part , and three of our members took home medals: Lee Waterfield 1st Compound ; Alice Woods- Stevens  2nd Lady Recurve ; Jane Burton 2nd Lady Barebow.Well done.
July will be nearly as busy.
Kind Regards
George
