Georges Newsletter June 2021

June has been a busy month, more like normal, but still governed by the covid regulations that limit the number  of archers that can be on the field at one time, and we still have to book in for club nights and practice sessions.  Even so, members are using the field more every week.

Our Double 720,on 6th June, organized by Linda Telford, was well attended by club members and visitors. George Tohovitis was 2nd Compound, Lee Waterfield 2nd Barebow, Carrie and Andy Mortimore 1st and 2ndlongbow respectively, and both shot 4-gold ends, and made new club records, Carrie making a national record.

We hosted the Sheriff of Nottingham’s Golden Arrow competition on 12th June organized by Susan Stankovic. Numbers were below normal, but 32 archers contested the 19 trophies,8 of which were won by our members, but could not be presented because of covid regulations. Stephen Lamb won 1, Lee Waterfield 2, Carrie Mortimore 2 and Andy Mortimore 3.

The next day we hosted the first round of the Notts Summer League, sharing the entries with Greasley Castle Archers, so as to fit in all of the teams.16 of our members took part and there were 40 archers on the field .New club records were set by the Mortimores, Jane Burton, Lee Waterfield and Ethan Lamb.

After the shoot, Carrie and Andy set off for Dunster in Somerset to shoot in the Dunster Week, a festival of archery attended by archers country-wide. Against strong competition their week’s total was one 1st, two 2nds, three 3rds and two 4ths, including two club and one county records.

On 20th June we shot our monthly Warwick round.  Numbers were low because it coincided with Fathers Day, and a poor weather forecast.  Jane Burton and Steve Hughes shot new records, and we shot a clout round in the afternoon which made for a good day.

Members went to Greasley Castle Archers for their Mid-Summer evening shoot. George Tohovitis was 1st Compound, and along with Jodie Cole [barebow], Paul Moran[recurve]and Andy Mortimore [longbow], set new club records.

To finish the month, we held our annual Double National open competition. Organized by Susan Stankovic ,there was a full field to shoot the two rounds. Lee Waterfield  was 1st compound, with new records  for single and double rounds, Alan Gosling was 2nd barebow and record double round, and Andy Mortimore was 2ndlongbow
