What a month at the archery field: rain, sun and some great shooting!

Linda Telford organised our World Archery 1440 tournament [12 dozen arrows shot at 90, 70, 50 and 30 metres], which also included the Nottingham/Lincolnshire challenge. 104 archers took part in what turned out to be a record-breaking meeting for our members. Simon Froggatt scored a magnificent 1397 points,  ust 3 points away from the perfect score of 1440, which earned him 6 new County and Regional records. Together with Lee Waterfield they were the winning compound team. Martyn Smith, Ashley Buckland and Charlotte Smith all set new Club records, and the following week, Charlotte improved on her record while shooting at Bradford University. Christina Gimbel, David Salmon ,Malcolm Douglas and Alex Hawley all shot personal bests, and Ashley Buckland gained a 1200 Star award. Holly Smith, who began her shooting with us before moving to Derbyshire, shot 1412 for a Metric 3 round and set a new National Record. To cap it all, Notts beat Lincs in the challenge match.

Two weeks late we hosted the Sheriff of Nottingham’s Golden Arrow tournament when 100 archers of all levels competed for a range of historic awards, and the following day we hosted the Notts Summer League shoot, together with the postal match with the archers of Oregon USA. 124 archers took part, but results are not published until after the third league is shot later in the summer. This was a hard week-end for Susan Stankovic who organised both days.

Our Summer Beginners Course is under way and going well, so there will soon be more archers shooting with us on Friday nights.

Our last event of the month was our Have-a-Go at the Family Fun Day on the Burgage. We were all enjoying the afternoon….and then the rain came; and what rain! But still we had people willing to try their hand[and eye] at archery, while we tried our best to keep the worst of the rain off with a variety of umbrellas. It all goes to show the attraction of getting arrows into the gold.
