Georges newsletter Aug 2022

The Club has made good progress in this long Summer period, as interest in our sport has increased.
We received the results from the Sherwood Archers of Oregon USA’s round of the Oregon Challenge,
mentioned in an earlier Bramley. The two  teams shot in nine different bow categories, Notts winning in four, and Oregon in five – a close result this year!
The final round of the Notts Summer League had to be moved to later in August because of the
Amber heat wave which made shooting risky for both archers and their equipment. Our best results
from the competition were Jane Burton,1st Lady Barebow, Callum Fuller, 1st Junior Compound,
Serena Lamb, 2nd Lady Recurve, and Lee Waterfield,2nd Gent Compound.
We were pleased, and proud, to be invited to host the Archery England English and Open Senior
Longbow Championships,Susan Stankovic being the organiser, and Mario being the Judge in charge.
17 gents shot the York and 8 ladies the Hereford. One archer claimed the Rose award for their score
and one claimed  a three gold end award. Carrie Mortimore was Lady Champion ,and Cliff Gadd was
Gent Champion .
Later in the month, several of our members went to Leeds to support the Westfield Health British
Transplant Games, taking items of club equipment to help the organisers of the archery section. We
received thanks from the organisers, and hope to be able to help next year again.
So far this year, we have had 48 on our beginners courses, and have another 30 signed up for
our September course. We have had 24 new senior members and 4 new Juniors mostly from these
courses, and quite a number on the next course visited us on the Big Weekend so  we look forward to having some of them join us  in due course.
Our coach-members have held several”taster” sessions, some for members of families and some
for groups of friends, A group of Minster choristers, with their teachers, had an enjoyable time, with
some of the younger ones keen to see just how far they could shoot down the range.
We are always happy to provide a taster at the field for anyone thinking of taking up the sport,
or just trying something different of an hour or so.There’s a charge of £10 per  person which includes
use of all the necessary equipment and qualified coaches; for more details and to make a booking,
contact.  secretary@sherwoodarchers.org.uk  and we look forward to seeing you
