The recent spell of fine,sunny weather gave us some busy practice sessions at the field on club nights,and there were members shooting every day [enjoying the sunshine].
As usual at this time of the year there were a number of tournaments at local clubs.Jenny Bryan [Ladies compound] shot in the Lincoln 720,representing Nottinghamshire in the inter-counties championship.This was a head-to-head match, where the final round was a shoot-off , in which Jenny took the silver medal for second place.
The first round of the County Summer League was held at Bramcote and our members made a strong start in this three-round competition.First places went to Jenny Bryan [Lady Compound], Carrie Mortimore [Lady Longbow], Stephen Lamb [Gents Recurve] and Ethan Lamb [Junior Recurve], and our recurve and longbow teams are leading after this first round.
Congratulations to Carrie Mortimore[Lady Longbow] on gaining her Grand Master Bowman qualification at this early stage of the season.
Shooting at Wilford last week, new club records were set by Serena Lamb, Ethan Lamb and Jenny Bryan, and Jenny improved her handicap to a splendid 13
May Bank Holiday Sunday was the day of the York round at Welbeck Archers. There was a tricky,gusty wind, but even so our members had a good day. Ethan Lamb won his junior division with a score of 959, giving him his first Junior Master Bowman score of the season, a new club record and a new handicap of 63.Coincidentally, his father Stephen gained his first Bowman score of the season for the York Round, also with a score of 959.
Now a date for your calendar. On August 18th and 19th we will be hosting the English Archery Federation’s EuroNations Competition. This is a two-day event involving teams from the Commonwealth Nations in Europe on the first day and an Open Competition on the second day.This will be an opportunity to see international archery for the first time at Southwell and it is hoped that the event will create a lot of interest.More details will follow as we get closer to the time.
