George’s News – June 2013

After the long, cold spring, outdoor shooting has at last become more pleasurable, and there are competitions every week-end and some mid-week ones too right through to the end of October.

Wilford Bowmen’s annual York / Hereford Open Tournament, held at Highfields Sports Ground in Nottingham was one of the selection shoots for the County team.   Our members had a good day! Susan Stankivic 2nd Lady Compound; Ashley Buckland 1st compound for her age group;  George Smith 3rd recurve for his age group; Joanna Bennett 1st Bristol 4; Julie Bancroft 3rd Lady recurve; Susan Stankovic and Robert Burton 1st compound team; Julie Bancroft and Toby Geffryes 1st recurve team; Mario Stankovic 1st longbow Long National.

Shooting at the Welbeck Weekend selection shoot, on Bank Holiday Sunday, Ashley Buckland was 1st compound for her age group again.

Our Record Status FITA tournament was held on the warmest day so far this summer. Twenty-six targets and over a hundred archers made an impressive sight on a sunny day.   In addition to being our open tournament, this was also another selection shoot for the county team and a challenge match between Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.   Our member shot well in the open tournament; Susan Stankovic 2nd Ladies Compound Julie Bancroft 2nd Ladies Recurve; Juniors Charlotte Smith, Ashley Buckland, Adam McLaughlin and Joanna Bennett all won their age-groups.   The Recurve Team Trophy was won by Sherwood Archers [Julie Bancroft, Toby Geffryes and Martyn Smith].   In the inter-county challenge, Susan Stankovic and Jon McLaughlin [Compound] and Julie Bancroft and Martyn Smith [Recurve] were part of the Notts team.

Finally, Ashley Buckland, Compound, shooting for The East Midlands Junior Team against The Northern Counties Junior Team, at Wetherby, came first in her age group, and helped the compound team score a victory over their opponents.

Well done everyone.
