Georges News Letter August 2018

July and August have been a busy time, so here is a diary of our events

July 1st  56 archers came to our Double National Competition.Our members shot well: Stephen Lamb 1stgentR/C, Serena Lamb 2ndlady R/C, Lee Waterfield 3rdgent Comp, Carrie Mortimore 1stlady L/B and Ethan Lamb 1stJnr R/C

July 8th Members shot in the Notts County Championships at Bramcote. Carrie and Andy Mortimore[L/B],Ethan Lamb[Jnr R/C] and Alex Hawes[Novice R/C]all took gold. Stephen and Serena Lamb and Darran Lowe were selected for the Notts team for the Thoresby Trophy Inter Counties shoot.

July 14th We hosted the English Archery Federation’s English Longbow Championships. Archers from across the country took part. Champions were Carrie Mortimore [Sherwood] and Cliff Gadd[Raven Archers, Canterbury].

Our summer Beginners’ Course was run by David Seymour and we are pleased to welcome new members to the club.

July 30th A group of members provided a Have-a-Go at the Medieval Fair held in the Archbishop’s Palace Gardens.Over 100 youngsters “had a go”. Great fun.

July 31st The visiting group of children from Belarus ,and their hosts, enjoyed a Have-a-Go organised by Linda Telford, helped by members.

August 2nd Mario and Susan Stankovik and Mark Burton went to help at the British Transplant Games in Birmingham.

August 11th Mario organised a Fun Shoot for members and their families. Unusual targets and unfamiliar bows , followed by supper cooked by Linda and Jason Millard, made for an enjoyable evening.

August 12th The Summer League final round was held at Bramcote. Our longbow and recurve teams were 1stand 2nd respectively. Carrie Mortimore, Ethan Lamb and Reece Buckland all gained gold.

August 17th/18th  We hosted the EAF Euro-Nations Championships. The England teams swept the board on the Saturday, and almost did the same on the Sunday.The whole event was a great success and a full report appears elsewhere in the Bramley.

August 24th  At our club night, we gathered to remember Les Leslie who passed away earlier in the month. His family joined us at the field; our president paid tribute to Les , and Andy Tomalin, one of his shooting companions at the Monday sessions, shot the memorial black  arrow, our traditional archer’s farewell.
